Out with the Old...

The boys' rooms need some updating, so we are beginning our process... we will be painting, rearranging, and getting new beds, headboards, wall décor, etc! We are pretty excited, although it will be a lot of work! When we were prepping some walls, I found a spot in Ben's room where he had written my name on his wall! It was pretty funny and he insisted that there was nothing wrong with it because it was really a compliment for me! Ben and Conner both enjoyed helping us start painting, although I only got a picture of Ben here. Stay tuned!

More Thanksgiving and Early Christmas...

The plan for today was to go to Minnesota, but the weather didn't cooperate, so we went to Conrad instead to celebrate Thanksgiving and early Christmas with Nick's family! The kids got to open a present from Great Grandpa and celebrate the holidays with him! The cousins all had a great time and even found some of Papa's treasures (racing shirts and cars!)

Conferences...

We had our first middle school conference experience tonight! Conner and Ben both presented us with their grades at their student led portion of the conference and then we were able to talk to their teachers as well. Everyone told us how kind our boys are and that they are a pleasure to have in school! After spending a couple of hours at school, we were ready for some dinner, so the boys chose to go to Culvers. They both got big adult meals and Conner had to have a picture of his pub house burger!!! It was a great night!!! So proud of our two boys!

Update on Ben...

We are STILL dealing with Ben's low platelet issue. Unfortunately, the med that we have been trying for the last several months just isn't working, so at the University of Iowa Hospital today, we decided to discontinue it. It is upsetting because this was one that we really thought would work. Ben's platelets dropped down to 3000 a few weeks ago and we have been on edge since this is the lowest he has ever been. The count was up to 21000 today, still way too low. Our poor boy cannot even participate in PE class at school at this point. It is really hard on him because he just wants to be "normal!" Ben has definitely taken this hard and has been quiet, scared, angry, and very confused lately. I have no answers for him and that makes it worse, because we all feel helpless. Any positive thoughts and prayers you could offer up for Ben would be much appreciated!!! The situation is getting increasingly scarier as we edge closer to more invasive treatments for his ITP. We have one more med to try and hopefully that will give us some good platelet counts for a change! If this doesn't work, we will have some hard decisions to make as the next treatment plans involve weekly visits to Iowa City for drug infusions which will leave his immune system unprotected and/or surgery to remove Ben's spleen. So, we are praying that for now, this new med will give us some peace and Ben will be able to enjoy his life as a 12 year old active young man! Thank you to everyone for your support!

18 Years...

Today is our 18th wedding anniversary! Nick and I opted to stay home with our boys this weekend and spend time all together. Happy Anniversary to a man who is amazing in every way possible. 18 years is a long time, but we have a lot more years to go! The boys and I love you so very much!

Yard Work...

The boys helped with a little yard work today! Our Halloween snow has melted and we are anticipating another batch soon, so one last spin with the mower for Ben. Conner was all about raking a few leaves. We even put some Christmas lights up since it was so nice outside!
