Down Time... No Thanks!

Today was one of those days where I needed a plan... for everything.  I love down time, unfortunately, my guys... don't always handle it well. So, I was pulling activities from every room, cupboard, and closet I could.  I had found some of those "grow capsules" the other day in the boys' bathroom closet and I figured I would just throw them away.  Instead, we came up with a sight word game where the boys got to earn a grow capsule after saying so many words correctly.  Success!  This kept them busy for a good 40 minutes!  That's pretty good!  We also made some yummy cookies.  The boys love helping in the kitchen, so they were pretty happy!

Growing Up...

Nick and I were trying to decide what to make for dinner tonight. Neither of us had too much energy left after a hectic day! Ben came into the kitchen and said, "Well, I think we should go out to eat.  We haven't done that in a while! "  Nick and I looked at each other... I said, "Where would we go?"  Ben's reply was Chili's, of course, because he loves the quesadillas there, but we reminded him that we had made our own quesadillas already this week.  Ben said, "Well then, I think it would be a good idea to go to Red Robin!"  He was so convinced and so serious about it that we just couldn't resist.  So we headed to Red Robin, where I assumed we would get the boys their chicken strips or macaroni, as usual.  The boys surprised us by actually looking at the menu (before they even started coloring) and they both chose their own meal.  Ben wanted a cheeseburger with fries.  Conner wanted spaghetti (with no red sauce!) and some oranges.  I was just amazed at how much they have changed and how grown up they seemed in that moment.  They both ate all their dinner and thanked us several times for taking them out to eat!  Nick and I were so proud of our big boys!

Sick Day...

After a busy week and a relatively quiet weekend, Ben woke us up last night saying he couldn't breathe!  It sure sounded like he couldn't!  We tried to calm him down enough to see if he was getting enough air to his lungs, but in the end, we made a trip to the ER at about 12:30am.  He was better by the time we got there, but was still wheezing and coughing like he had croup.  Wouldn't you know it... no rooms were open in the ER! So we sat for over an hour just waiting for a room.  We got to leave at about 3am, having been told that it was indeed croup and he would have to take his steroids for a few days.  So, today Ben and I had a sick day, although he insists that he is not sick!!!

Extra Time...

Another late start for school today!  We could definitely get used to all this extra time in the morning! It would be great if the boys would sleep during some of that extra time!  Looks like tomorrow will be another late start, too!  Next week could be rough trying to get to school on time!

Snow Day!

Today we had a snow day so instead of going to school, we went out for lunch!  Ben and Conner had to pick a crown before they left the restaurant!

Shoveling...

Ben and Conner were overjoyed when they were able to get outside and use their new snow shovels today! We started back to school today, but it was a late start, so it made for a pretty good day!
