Happy Halloween!

We asked the boys to choose a costume that we didn't have to buy all new stuff for this year. They both chose to be HyVee workers!!! Nick had nametags made for them, got two new aprons, and they got to wear their dress clothes! The boys LOVED it! And, while we were out in the neighborhood, they had tons of people telling them how good they looked, so they were pretty pumped! We had a great time trick or treating this year and the weather was so nice, so we all enjoyed walking around the neighborhood! The boys got so much candy!!!

Good News...

Conner and Ben had EEGs done last week and we got the results today.
"Normal"
What?
Yes, the results are normal....

Our boys have epilepsy. They have had this since they were 1 and 2 years old. Neither one of them has ever had a normal EEG. Never. I can still remember the first EEGs and how the doctors explained the abnormal results to us. Our lives changed. And today, we were told that they both have a normal EEG. This could change the rest of their lives. Today I can say that our sons are outgrowing their epilepsy. This might not always be the case, but today, I can say it. This gives us so much hope and makes everything feel a little lighter.

Today is a day of happy tears and a glimpse of a future where our boys don't have to plan their days around their meds. We don't often get good news from doctors, so we are going to treasure this moment...

Today is a good day.

Pumpkins!

We decided to carve pumpkins this afternoon! Conner and Ben both helped a lot and even got to use the knife to trace their design and carve their own pumpkin, with Dad's help! Conner wanted a shark mouth, and Ben wanted a heart on his this year!

What a Mess!

Our Sunday did not start out too great for us... Ben woke up around 4 with a horrendous bloody nose. We spent the next few hours dealing with that and then he ultimately ended up throwing up and it was like a scene from a horror movie! The blood freaked me out so I took him to the ER to make sure that there wasn't some other reason for him vomiting blood! After a couple hours at the ER his nose finally quit for good and the doctor assured me that because he had swallowed so much blood, it had drained in to his throat and stomach, and it had to come out somehow! Ben was fine after our little trip! Seriously.

Chef Practice...

Nick is the chef in our house right now and the boys wanted to help him with dinner tonight, so they started by washing veggies and getting fixings ready for some hot beef sandwiches. They decided pretty early on that they would rather be the servers in the restaurant, so they started writing down orders and hanging them on the microwave for Chef Dad!

Party!

After a couple of very busy weeks to start October, we were able to go to Ankeny to celebrate our brother in law, Curt's, 40th birthday! We all had so much fun! The boys loved playing pool all night and it was great to spend some time with family!
