Movies, Sump Pumps, and Tornadoes!

Popcorn and a movie were on our list of things to do today. The boys got to enjoy their popcorn and The Greatest Showman. I had planned to join them, but Nick discovered that our sump pump wasn't working! He used the shop vac to get some of the water out of the pit while I rearranged the finished part of the basement because a small portion of the carpet was starting to feel damp. NOT FUN!!! While Nick was still trying to pump water out, the tornado siren started to go off. There ended up being a tornado pretty close to us. The boys heard the siren and began freaking out promptly. We watched the weather, but continued to try and save our basement from flooding! At this point, Ben is going outside to see if he can see the tornado and Conner is running around the house yelling, "I'm too cute to die!" Of course, this was all happening around our dinner and medicine time. Nick had planned an awesome meal to grill, but he was a little busy... so I made the boys some sandwiches so they could have some dinner. The tornado moved on, but there was more weather coming. By some miracle, our sump pump started working when Nick was trying to get it out! We still decided we better have a plan B ready so Nick ran to Menards to buy a new sump pump. While Nick was gone, the boys insisted that we make an emergency kit, so they threw some supplies in a container and now we will be prepared for next time! It was hard to go to bed tonight because Conner and Ben were pretty sure they should stay up all night so they would know if there was another tornado! Whew! Not my favorite day, but we were still able to have some laughs through it all! I just love this family of mine... always an adventure!
